History of Go Ape

Go Ape is the UK's number one forest adventure company. It was founded in 2001 by Rebecca and Tristram Mayhew when they saw an opportunity for the UK after experiencing a treetop adventure course while holidaying in France.

The company now operates 28 tree top adventure courses in forests throughout the UK, some of which form part of a contract with the Forestry Commission. Go Ape adventure courses incorporate zip-lines, trapezes, rope ladders and swings. Junior adventure courses are designed for children aged six to 12. The Go Ape course in Stirling in Scotland features one of the longest zip-lines in the country.

The company is now an award winning enterprise, winning a Best Tourist Attraction award in 2003. Go Ape is extremely popular with adults and children alike, with children's parties, team building days, client days and hen and stag dos among their most popular packages.

The Go Ape experience certainly lives up to the company strap-line of "creating adventures and encouraging others to live life more adventurously." There is something for everyone regardless of age, background or fitness level. It is an original day out for the entire family.

Go Ape operate four types of adventures in their forest locations. Treetop adventures are the original adventure and how the company started. These include an exhilarating range of obstacles suitable for teenagers and adults. Junior tree-top adventures are designed for six to 10 year olds. Zip trekking adventures are a network of tandem zip lines that traverse the top of the forest giving the feeling of flying in the sky.

Go Ape now also operate Segway adventures and mountain bike trails for those that like to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

Children can take part on junior courses from the age of six. Children aged 10 -15 are known as Baboons and can take part in certain adventures. Go Ape have specially designed packages for children's birthday parties and secondary school parties.

Adult parties include a specially designed package for hen and stag dos. Go Ape also specialise in corporate packages. Companies can work with the corporate team to create a special experience day for both staff and clients.

Opening times

The seasonality of Go Ape adventure courses means that opening times change regularly, depending on daylight hours. The main season opens in late March and runs through to late October. Forests are open during all main school holidays that take place in these months (Easter, half-term and summer). Facilities are shut on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during term time in these months. Forests are only open only at the weekend in November.

Customers are advised to check full availability for the park nearest to them by reading the comprehensive information on the Go Ape website, which includes precise times and dates for each forest location.

Delivery Information

Orders placed through the Go Ape website for adventures will be emailed to customers to the email address given when booking. This confirmation email will also include a Risk Acknowledgement and Disclaimer which need to be read and signed by each person who will be undertaking the experience.

Gift vouchers are available on the website and can be sent directly to the recipient via post or email. Posted vouchers will be delivered by standard post.

Returns Policy

Different booking terms and conditions (that include returns and refunds) apply to each of Go Ape's adventure types. Customers are encouraged to read these in full before booking. They are available on the Go Ape website. In general, a full refund will be given providing the experience is cancelled no later than 48 hours before the booked time. Late arrivals that miss an allocated time will not be refunded or compensated.
