History of Marriott

With more than 4,000 hotels spread over 80 different countries, Marriott has secured its position as the world's largest hotel chain, and this has all happened in just over 50 years. The first Marriott hotel, located in Arlington, Virginia, first opened its doors to the public in 1957. This was a huge success, and was quickly followed by a second hotel, also in Arlington, called the Key Bridge Marriott, which still stands today as the longest-serving Marriott hotel.

Since those early days, Marriott has seen enormous success and is now a multi-billion dollar company, employing 200,000 staff and operating almost 700,000 hotel rooms. Originally encompassing just a handful of Marriott-branded hotels, the company has since expanded and incorporated a great deal of other hotel chains. These range from the company's signature brand, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, to convention brands, such as Gaylord Hotels, and even incorporates luxury brands, such as Ritz-Carlton and BVLGARI Hotels & Resorts.

Marriott is also well-known for its loyalty points scheme, entitled Marriott Rewards, which allows customers to redeem points in exchange for stays in Marriott hotels, cruises, meals, events, and much more.

In addition, Marriott also frequently releases discount codes, which often allow around 15% off stays in certain hotels at certain times. These can be redeemed online or, occasionally, when ordering over the telephone.

Cancellations Policy

In order to cancel a reservation on marriott.co.uk, simply click the link entitled 'change/cancel reservations' at the top of the webpage. You will then be asked to enter your reservation number (sent in your confirmation email) along with the surname of the person under whom the room has been booked. This will allow you to cancel or make changes to your booking.

Please note that you may still be charged if you do not cancel within a certain time period. This varies depending on the hotel at which you are staying. For further information, check the individual cancellation policy of the hotel concerned. This will be available on the Marriott website when making a booking. If you do not turn up and do not cancel your booking in advance, you will be charged the full cost of the room.

Delivery Information

Reservations can be made online at marriott.co.uk at any time of day or night. Simply visit the website, enter your details (such as date of stay, location, desired hotel, number of beds, etc.) and go through the procedure to book your room. Once the room has been booked, you will receive a confirmation email along with a reference number which can be quoted in case of any problems. Remember to bring the card with which you paid when visiting the hotel, and to state the name under which the room has been booked.

Marriott takes the privacy and security of its customers extremely seriously, and all payments made through the website are secured. As the company's servers are based in the US, Marriott International Inc and its Affiliates are certified to the U.S.-E.U. and U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor Frameworks for the transfer of personal data to the United States.

Reviews vary depending on the hotel at which you wish to stay. As the amount of hotels owned by Marriott exceeds 4,000, a general consensus is difficult to obtain. However, as a whole, customers' experiences of Marriott hotels are generally positive. One recommended site to check before booking is TripAdvisor, which collates reviews from customers and gives each hotel a score out of five, based on customer experience.
