History of Molton Brown

Molton Brown is a London-based company that blends its own range of bath, body and beauty products using specially sourced exotic scents and can be found in hotels, spas and department stores worldwide. The company was established in 1973 by founder Caroline Burstein above a hair salon in South Molton Street, London, where she started out blending hair care products for the salon by hand. By 1979, Molton Brown's range of exotic bath and body products was launched, and the brand began to be stocked by Harrods.

Molton Brown's signature scent is a unique blend of orange and bergamot, which first appeared in 1984 as a luxury hand wash. This was followed in 1985 with the launch of Molton Brown's range of luxury grooming products for men. In 1986 Molton Brown moved production into a 16th century cottage in Hertfordshire, where it continued for 10 years until bigger premises were needed. A factory with production line and lab was acquired nearby in 1996, which is still operating today.

The late 1980s saw the first use of Molton Brown products in hotels. Since then, the company has expanded its presence into hotels and cruise ships in more than 65 countries and also stocks a travel size range for those on the move who might not be checking into one of them!

In 1998 the company launched its website, allowing it further global reach. Today, Molton Brown has dedicated websites for the UK, Europe, Australia and America to make both purchase and supply easier on a global level, as well as a dedicated Facebook page which was launched in 2008.

In 2001 another signature scent, Gingerlily, was launched and quickly became a bestseller. Black Peppercorn's launch the following year triggered a run of awards for the company and Pink Pepperpod's appearance in 2010 led to a flurry of media coverage and further increased sales.

In 2011 Molton Brown's range of scented candles for the home was released to keep up with the trend for home fragrance, while 2012 saw the launch of a new anti-ageing range as well as an update hair care range based on the company's humble beginnings on South Molton Street.

Molton Brown's UK standard delivery service costs £4.95 for orders of less than £49, free of charge for those worth more than £49, and items will be delivered within 3-5 working days. UK next day delivery costs £7.95 and items ordered before 12pm, Monday to Friday, will be delivered the next working day. Named day UK delivery is available for £6.95 and can be selected and specified during the checkout process. Saturday delivery within the UK costs £9.95.

Click and Collect delivery into Molton Brown stores is available, free of charge 7 days a week. Orders are available to collect between 1 and 8 days after order, dependent on stock location and availability. Deliveries are made by courier and a signature from the customer will be required on receipt of the order.

Returns Policy

Unwanted and resaleable items can be returned in perfect condition and original packaging to Molton Brown for a full refund for up to 28 days after purchase. Faulty or damaged goods are eligible for exchange or a full refund but may be subject to approval following Molton Brown's Quality Review process.
