History of Moss Bros

Moss Bros is a leader in the UK formal menswear retail field, with more than 135 outlets across the UK and a strong online presence. The company began in Covent Garden in 1851 when Moses Moss opened two small second-hand clothing shops. In 1894, Alfred and George Moss inherited the business from their father Moses and began to expand the business. They also opened a clothing hire service, a form of which still operates today within the brand.

George Moss was a skilled tailor and in the early 1900s the company gained a reputation for providing hand finished, ready to wear garments that outperformed machine finished suits but were more affordable than bespoke tailoring. During the First World War, Moss Bros made and supplied military uniforms in huge numbers and their solid reputation grew to royal heights when in 1924 they supplied suits to King George's new Labour Party for court. After the Second World War, in 1947, Moss Bros became a public company with the family retaining controlling interest.

During the 1960s, Harry Moss led expansion of the company to over 100 UK outlets and by the 1980s the business was ready for major change. The 1980s and 1990s saw a number of acquisitions and mergers by the growing company, with businesses including Fairdale, Dormie and Blazer being acquired and a merger with Cecil Gee being agreed. Moss Direct, an online and mail order outlet, was launched in 2005 and Moss Bros Online opened for business in 2009 and grows from strength to strength to date.

Today, the company offers expertise and formal menswear items from a range of high end brands and designers, including its own clothing lines, as well as a suit hire service and online provision for easy shopping at the click of a button. Delivery Information

A range of delivery options are available on orders from Moss Bros at varying prices. Standard four to five day UK home delivery and delivery to stores within seven days for collection are both free of charge. The click and collect in store premium service costs £8 and enables next working day (afternoon) collection for orders placed by 5pm Monday to Thursday and by 1pm Sunday. UK mainland next working day home delivery also costs £8 and for next working day delivery before 12 noon the delivery charge is £10, both also for orders placed before 5pm Monday to Thursday and before 1pm Sunday. Saturday delivery is available on orders placed before 5pm Friday for £12 and delivery can be requested for a named day for £9. Moss Bros also delivers to Northern Ireland and the Highlands and Islands, as well as British Forces Post Office addresses, for £10 and to international destinations for a range of prices (depending on destination) and delivery times. Returns Policy

Unworn and as new items can be returned in store for exchange for up to 28 days after purchase, or within 14 days for sale items, to be eligible for a full refund. Returns made by Collect+ or in store do not incur a charge. Returns can also be made by post at the customer's own cost. Faulty items or the wrong item will be replaced or refunded in full but personalised or altered items cannot be replaced or refunded.
