While Radley has only come in to the wider public consciousness in recent years, its roots go back to the mid '80s when founder, Lowell Harder, first began selling handbags and accessories at Camden Market in London. Radley as we know it today was founded by Harder in 1998. Since then, it has become a much loved brand with its modern, stylish and elegant designs in handbags and accessories. It is popular internationally, symbolising British craftsmanship and design. Radley was founded as an attempt to make handbags more colourful and fun. This ethos is still central to the company's contemporary use of colour and texture in its products, all of which also feature the instantly recognisable Scotty dog emblem.
Radley only sells its own products in its shops and website. All of its products feature the quirky Scotty dog motif which has helped Radley to become a recognised international brand.
The Scotty dog emblem has become the symbol of Radley's quality and design but was created almost by accident by a designer. It proved an instant hit with customers. A slight redesign of the dog to make him bigger was rejected by the audience and led to the original design being reinstated in 2012. The original design is still the one used today.
The Radley brand was established with its range of handbags. Radley has extended this to other bag types and now also sells a wide range of accessories.
The range is also split in to collections of styles, textures and moods that include some signature pieces and special edition lines.
Handbags can also be ordered personalised, with a hand-embossed Scotty dog charm in a wide range of colours, featuring up to four initials added when ordering.
